Amboseli National Park sits at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro on Kenya's southern border. It is best known for its large, relaxed elephant herds and for the classic view of Africa's highest peak rising behind them.
Game drives regularly turn up lion, cheetah, giraffe, buffalo and zebra, and more than 400 bird species have been recorded around the park's swamps.
Best time to visit
June to October and January to February are dry, with animals concentrated around the swamps and Kilimanjaro most often clear at dawn and dusk.
